The truth behind Orphanage Voluntourism
Volunteers Needed is the first in-depth documentary focusing on international volunteers in children’s homes and orphanages.
Our mission is to create knowledge and awareness around the dangers of international voluntourism. Filming took place over a year in South Asia and interviews include multi-national NGO’s, government agencies, volunteers and the ‘beneficiaries’ themselves.
A honest look at a complicated problem.
It’s currently estimated that 18,000 children are placed in orphanages and children’s homes in Nepal. Of those 18,000 only 3,000-5,000 of these children are actually orphans. Follow along as we discover how they ended up there, and how we can get them home.
